Muumiot Returns to Hockey Country for 2016 CARHA Hockey World Cup

Located just over 6,800 kilometers from Windsor, Ontario is the Finnish capital city of Helsinki. There, you will find the Muumiot (Mummies in english) hockey team that has been together since 2002. In their first ever game, the Mummies faced off against the Netskaters, a Canadian hockey team that was visiting the region. This was the start of a long relationship between the Mummies and Canadian hockey.

Fast forward to 2016 as the Mummies are getting ready to come to Canada to participate in their fourth CARHA Hockey World Cup. When asked about returning to the CARHA Hockey World Cup for another tournament, Mummies Team Representative Tapio Keränen said “Canada is the hockey country and people are very friendly. We feel that we are most welcome to your country to play the game we love.”

On top of playing in CARHA Hockey World Cup, the Mummies have also booked what they call an “excellent Ontario Breakaway Pre-Tournament.”. With the help of George Nickerson, the Mummies will face off against the Mighty Hurricanes (Toronto), the Water Street Auto Inc. (Cambridge) and the Tri-City Dinos (Cambridge) while on their way to Windsor. During the tournament, the Mummies will have one goalie and 13 skaters, all of which will be over the age of 40.

CARHA Representative Reuben Greenspoon said “We are excited to see the Mummies take to the ice during the weeklong event (April 3rd-10th) and wish them safe travels as they make their way to Windsor for the 2016 CARHA Hockey World Cup!.”
